Catalonia is located in northeastern Spain on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea and has a coastline of 580 km consisting of the Costa Brava, Costa del Maresme, Costa del Garraf and Costa Daurada. The region is bordered to the south of the Comunidad Valenciana, Aragón to the west and the north of France and Andorra.
It has three official languages: Catalan, Spanish and Aranese spoken in the Aran Valley, a region in the Catalan Pyrenees. It is one of three wealthiest regions of Spain. Catalonia has developed a strong identity and the use of the Catalan language is strongly promoted by the state government.
Catalonia celebrates on April 23 the feast of the patron saint, Sant Jordi. According to tradition, get a rose on that day women and men a book. Barcelona are everywhere on this day flower stalls and book stalls.
Part of the Catalans will prefer an independent Catalonia. According to the "Statute of Autonomy of Catalonia 2006" is not only one of 17 autonomous regions of Spain considered, but also as a nationality. It is not a separate country. It is part of Spain, although the Spanish Constitution defined as a nation. The Spanish government has added however that this description is purely linguistically and politically or legally of no value, since the Spanish Constitution recognizes only a nation, Spain.
In 2006, the Popular Party (PP) by the Spanish Supreme Court, an application for revision of the term "nation" in Catalonia. PP considers the definition as a nation (Catalonia), within another nation (Spain), unconstitutional and therefore contrary to the Constitution. The Spanish Constitutional Court has not ruled on this matter, it is expected during 2010.
In Catalonia, there are three official languages: Catalan, Spanish and Aranese. In the capital Barcelona is Catalan and Spanish spoken, but in rural areas is it that people do not speak Spanish. The Aranese spoken in the Val d'Aran in the north-west of Catalonia.

It comes from the Latin people, while the Spanish contrast 'descendants' of the bourgeois or aristocratic Latin. The pronunciation, grammar and sentence structure of Catalan and Spanish help considerably different.

In Spain itself, the latter language, therefore, indicated by Castilian ((es) Castellano): it is not the language of the whole of Spain and is therefore not "Spanish" name (not only Catalonia has an official language, also in the Basque Country Galicia and other languages spoken).
