Costa Rica Tourism

Costa Rica is a country in Central America, bordered to the north by the Republic of Nicaragua and the southeast by the Republic of Panama. Its territory is bordered on the east by the Caribbean Sea, which has maritime borders with the Republic of Nicaragua, Republic of Colombia and the Republic of Panama and the west by the Pacific Ocean. Its capital, political and economic center is San Jose. The official language is Spanish. Also known as "the Switzerland of Central America.

Costa Rica consist of seven provinces

6. Puntarenas
7. San José

Costa Rica is one of the most consolidated democracies in Latin. It is the only Latin American country included in the list of the 22 oldest democracies in the world. The nation won worldwide recognition to abolish the army on December 1, 1948, abolition was perpetuated in the 1949 Constitution. Costa Rica ranks third worldwide in the classification of Environmental Performance Index 2009. Among Latin American countries, Costa Rica ranks first in the classification of tourism competitiveness index and the place 42 worldwide.

In 2007, the Government of Costa Rica announced plans to become the world's first carbon neutral country by 2021 when it fulfilled its bicentennial as a nation. According to the New Economics Foundation, Costa Rica ranks first in the Happy Planet Index (HPI) and is the "greenest" countries in the world.

Costa Rica has abundant wildlife such as puma, jaguar, deer, monkey, coyote, armadillos and several species of birds among which the quetzal, and the hummingbird. 46.8% of the total land area is covered with forests, approximately 25% of the territory is protected, however, the country has one of the highest rates of deforestation in the region.
